It is my great pleasure to introduce the Department of Physics of Korea University!
Physics is a science involving the basic nature of the fundamental interactions
of matter that fills the universe. It is the most profound academic discipline that
sustains the whole aspects of the natural science, and eventually mathematics and philosophy.
The progress of Physics has provided us with the origin of economic growth that has been
driven by high technologies of each era: Faraday's law of induction is the origin of
electricity without which the world economy breaks down. Dramatic changes of human welfare
are strongly dependent upon the by-products of Physics research, such as wireless communications,
television, computers, mobile phones, and nuclear weapons.
Now we are facing the advent of industry 4.0, which is summarized by cyber-physical systems,
cloud computing, and self-driving cars. Remember that all of the great revolutions of the
human history has been engined by the product of Physics research.
Furthermore, we should bear in mind that the majority of current jobs will ultimately
disappear when the era of industry 4.0 flourishes.
If you want to be a leader in this generation, you should better expand your understanding of Physics.
Physics is the best major to learn for problem that has never been experienced throughout the human history.
