Abstracts:
The muon magnetic moment anomaly, or muon “g-2”, provides one of the most sensitive tests of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics. Any deviation between the theoretical SM prediction and the measurement could signal the presence of as yet undiscovered new physics beyond the SM. In June, the Muon g-2 experiment released its final measurement. It agrees with the 2025 SM prediction from the Muon g−2 Theory Initiative, which is based on lattice QCD determinations of the leading hadronic contribution. However, puzzling tensions exist between lattice QCD and dispersive, data-driven determinations of this hadronic contribution. In this talk, I will review the current status of the SM prediction for the muon g-2, highlighting recent developments in this ongoing puzzle. I will also discuss the MUonE proposal at CERN, which aims to use muon–electron scattering data to provide a new direct determination of the leading hadronic contribution to the muon g-2. This novel approach could be key to resolving this muon g-2 puzzle.
