Abstracts:
The fundamental properties of photons, such as energy, momentum, and spin angular momentum, have long served as the basis for modern optical technologies. Recent theoretical predictions suggest that extending this control into the space-time domain enables exotic functionalities beyond conventional optics, such as orbital angular momentum and nonlinearity-free optical solitons. In this talk, I will introduce the emerging field of space-time photonics, which explores spatiotemporal manipulation of light across diverse photonic platforms. I will first present gradient-thickness optical cavity, a topological photonic medium that spontaneously generates optical vortices with strong electric and magnetic field activity. I will then discuss nonlocal metasurfaces capable of producing space-time light bullets with non-diffractive and non-dispersive characteristics. Finally, I will highlight the potential applications of these novel light sources in light-driven quantum phenomena and free-space optical communications.
