강연주제: Hybrid phase transitions in complex systems
Phase transitions are conventionally classified
into two categories: first-order and second-order transitions. In the former, the order parameter is discontinuous and fluctuations are finite, whereas in
the latter, the order parameter changes continuously and the
correlation length diverges. However, the so-called hybrid transitions combine
features of both types. Such transitions were first foreseen by D. J. Thouless
in 1969 for equilibrium systems with long-range interactions, followed by various models even with short-range
interactions in equilibrium and non-equilibrium systems. In this talk, I will
present the Landau formalism for the hybrid phase transitions in equilibrium
systems and illustrate underlying mechanism of hybrid percolation transitions in non-equilibrium
systems.
